Oil & Filter change
Don't by any means underestimate the importance of checking your oil regularly and changing it when required. Ecotec engines are renowned for burning oil and I have (in the past) been a victim of not checking my oil regularly. after my Astra's engine was fully serviced by vauxhall I never checked the oil for months, then one day the car started to run rough, I had completely fried a lobe on the camshaft, be warned.
Performing an oil change is probably one of the simplest jobs to undertake, but it is also probably the one that causes the most mess. Start by parking the car on level ground, this is obviously safest for jacking up the car but also ensures all the oil is in the sump. The engine should have been stood for a while to further ensure that all the oil is in the sump and you want it to be cool. Once jacked (in the designated points) or placed on ramps undo the sump plug (see pic) using a T45 TX Star bit. Before you completely remove the plug ensure you have a bucket or some other means of disposal method.

Whilst the oil is draining remove the old filter (see pic) using either brute strength or a oil filter wrench. Before fitting the new filter fill it half way with new oil (make sure you use the correct Viscosity mine was 10/40 semi synthetic) and rub some oil around the seal of the filter. Screw the filter back on and hand tighten or nip gently with filter wrench.
Once you are sure all the old oil has drained off hand tighten the sump plug back on ensuring not to cross thred it, if the O seal has perished replace with a new. Finally tighten up with a socket and star bit.
Before you attempt to refill the car lower it from the ramps or stands so that it is level, slowly fill the engine checking the dip stick regularly, remember the oil will take a while to make its way to the sump so let it drain down before you check it.

you say on your oil and filter change that you want to let the oil cool. I would recommend that you take to car out for a 5-10 min drive to warm the oil up and then drain it as this allows the oil to flow more freely from the sump and also dragging some dirt and swarf with it should there be any in there.
obviously you would need to warn of hot oil and possible burns.
